    "A piece of Poo Poo"

    January 10, 2010  |   By noodles57

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

can't think of any, it's Microsoft product.

    Cons

    - locks up quite a bit
    - need to reboot computer at times when the project doesn't load just to free resources or open task manager to exit program
    - can't find project files at times - when program does eventually load

    Summary

Unfortunately as with all Microsoft programs, Movie Maker is incorporated into the OS and eats up resources (similar to IE, Outlook, etc)

If Microsoft had the foresight to create software that could run on its own, then this program could work better. But they have their own way of doing things. They don't play well with others and this is just another example of this.

"consider that YOU may be the problem, NOT the software?"

    January 5, 2010  |   By jkolins

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

I've used this FREEWARE for uTube videos, plus some for a bunch of commercial clients that love the end-results. It has three wonder features: 1) it's simple, 2) it's simple and 3) it's simple. "even a child could use it" (from C-Net review).

    Cons

Reviewed by: Seth Rosenblatt on December 05, 2008. If it chrashed so much, why didn't this PROFESSIONAL try to find out why? I've had a few crashes but every time I know it's me. Quit double/triple clicking, when you get impatient with its speed.

    Summary

I love it...I put out two minutes videos for my clients within five minutes after finishing the scenes for them. ON SITE....ON THE JOB....ON CUSTOMER LOCATION..... AND THE CUSTOMER TAKES IT INTO THE ASSEMBLY LINE AND TRAINS OTHERS WITH THE VIDEO I EDITED ON THIS SOFTWARE. Don't listen to the "experts" who make a living writing those "reviews". If Microsoft trimed up this software it would be EXCELLENT.
I'd like a litttle more control of the TEXTING. Memory allocation is the major reason for crashes as well as keyboard command delay(easy fix). The collections arrangement is foolish. Generally when done with a video, you either dump or move your "collected" sceens to a new location. WMM still looks for them and gives you a big "X" if it can't find them. No way (that I've found) to stop this annoying trait.
Still, the eas that it gives you Adding, Cutting, Transitions, Voice Narration, Audio Background is amazing and SIMPLE. Go slow and you love it.

    "Back to basics. Maybe."

    December 29, 2009  |   By Decaegis

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

Easy to understand, works fine on nearly every computer.

    Cons

Slow rendering the final product. Few special effects, kind of feels like eating a sandwich with nothing on it, and nothing to drink. haha

    Summary

I had this on my acer netbook. I didn't like it at first and it stayed that way. It was good for simple video editing and webcam capture, but as far as anything else goes, like special effects and how fast it converts video files, it isn't very good.

    "What a piece of junk."

    December 28, 2009  |   By daedsider

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

    It used to work.

    Cons

    Now it doesn't.

    Summary

I used use windows movie maker all the time and, while it occassionally had problems, it was relatively reliable and easy to use. Like everything Microsoft makes, however, it has gotten progressively more unreliable and less straight-forward in the name of being more 'user friendly' (which means, as far as I can tell, pretty, but difficult to use and slow.) Now that I've spent the last two hours trying to get the program to do something that should literally take seconds, I'm more than a little tired of it. I wouldn't recommed this program to anyone. Ever. It crashes over simple tasks and isn't really a very good video editor to begin with.

"unable to reload Movie Maker on XP with SP3"

    December 21, 2009  |   By johnsview

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

links to download Microsoft Movie Maker inevitably lead to Windows site which requires XP with SP2, but will not work with SP3 installed.
Microsoft then requires Internet Explorer 8 and IE8 puts the nail in the coffin for Movie Maker download.

    Cons

Provide a download file (or link to it) for Windows XP Movie Maker (V1.1 or 2.1 preferred) which works with XP SP3 and does not require access to Microsoft website.
Early versions will edit and convert between video types,

    Summary

no problems with Microsoft Movie Maker itself, just problems getting it reinstalled after an unknown bug causes it to crash

    Pros

i did not cost anything and it's easy to use

"It won't support all file types."

    December 19, 2009  |   By Rozee3

Version: Windows Movie Maker (Windows XP) 2.1

    Pros

It is really really easy to use (unlike Windows Movie Maker 2.6) and has great animations.

    Cons

It does not support all file types. (for stuff like music)

    Summary

I was trying to make a video and when I clicked Add Music and selected the song I wanted, it said it didn't support that file type. I wish it would support ALL file types so people would not have to hunt for specific file extensions! It aggrivates me because that's what makes it so difficult to make videos!
